Still working...

Well, I got on the scale and it reads 166lbs. Diet and exercise are working. I have been exercising 6-7 days/wk and eating the diet designed for me 95% of the time. I have ventured into the gap a few times with a spoon of vanilla ice cream, 4 handfuls of popcorn one day, and I did have a few Hershey's mini chocolate bars during work this last week. Well today is another day and I am up to the task of eating what I am suppose to eat. The exercise part is not difficult for me-I actually enjoy it most of the time. I will have to see what the next weeks or so bring when it comes to weight loss.

The journey begins

On Tuesday August 7th, I began a new path. I met with Dr.Nancy to make a plan for my weight loss. We discussed my personal situations and what needed to be done for me to reach my overall goal as well as my short goal for the week. I stepped on the scale, all 172.5 lbs of me. Thank god I didn't weight more than I had last week went through my mind as my feet left the scale.

I had been doing some exercise and making some good food choices-but then Matt and I had made a run to KC over our long weekend. Cheesecake factory, hot dogs at a Royal's game, BBQ, wine, ect. The calories had added up and I sure hoped I would not weigh 190 lbs at the start of this diet! It's amazing what a little exercise can do to maintain weight. But I needed more than to maintain 172.5 lbs, I needed to lose some of it.

I am turning 27 this year. I have some family history of cardiac issues- including hypertension, elevated cholesterol/triglycerides, and strokes. We reviewed my blood work and my cholesterol is okay but my triglycerides are elevated. Even though my cholesterol is okay I want my bad to be lower and my good to be higher. (LDL, VLDL-bad; HDL-good)

I have seen the increase of people acquiring Type 2 diabetes due to food choices and being overweight. I don't want this! If I can get back to a healthy lifestyle and decrease my high sugar foods I can do my part to prevent getting this terrible disease. I have already put daily exercise in my plan and am eating to lose the weight.

When I was younger I had that feeling of "It will never happen to me," but now I know it could and I don't want it to. I have always wanted to have a healthy lifestyle, but I admit it can be tough to plan exercise into an already busy schedule and then eat the foods that are good for you. My biggest vice: cheese fries (especially CCQ fries from Little Apple Brewery and from Timberline Steakhouse) and chocolate (especially M&M's and popcorn).

Well I stepped on the scale at home this AM and I am down to 169.8 lbs. Goin' in the right direction. I would love to get down to 125lbs, but my goal is somewhere between 130-140lbs. I step on the scale at the doc's office this Tuesday! I plan to put pictures up in about 3-4 wks to see my progress.
