The house we are waiting to close on does not have a garbage disposal; but it does have a compost bin. I have never used a compost bin, but I am willing to learn, so a good ol' google search showed me this list: http://www.plantea.com/compost-materials.htm

My sister Lori (lifeisgolden.blogspot.com) and her husband Brian use a compost bin at their house. They save all the vegetable peelings in a container under the sink and then empty the bin in the garden. I believe I remember her saying that it's made a difference in their vegetable production.
