So what does someone write about on a blog? I really can't give specifics when it comes to my job. HIPPA has issues with that. Though I think I can say this: Country Stampede is a crazy event that takes place in Manhattan, KS once a year in the middle of summer! Alcohol
intoxication, sunburns, heat exhaustion, and other incidents were seen at the EMS tents, Red Cross tents, and the ER itself.
I, being someone who never really partied with people who drank to get wasted/plastered, was amazed at how people let themselves get so drunk they can't even keep their eyes opened. This last week I helped treat 2 young men-less than 21yrs I might add- that were so drunk they didn't even react to me placing a foley catheter (this is the tube that is inserted into the bladder to drain urine). This last weekend gave me an even greater respect for alcohol. The way a majority of people tend to abuse alcohol in this country angers me. We are losing innocent lives in car wrecks, choking on their own vomit, and others ways of death related to alcohol abuse.
The fact that Hollywood gets away with DUIs is a real problem. These are people who are idolized (though I don't think they should be). When one over does it on alcohol for even the first time and then tries to drive home there should be severe consequences!
But, we applaud her and give her media coverage like the heiress she thinks she is. Paris Hilton is not the first celeb. to have issues with alcohol, but she is the most recent at this time. I am completely frustrated in how celebs. and others who get away with DUIs get more chances to put themselves and other innocent people in harms way for them to get a "buzz" and then think they can drive home!
Disclaimer: I actually like some country music and I enjoy alcohol in moderation. I think there is an issue with people choosing to lose their self control and put themselves and others at risk.
